FAQs
Q: How can I get more information? A: Email Joshua Smyser at youthministry@staloysiusparish.org or call the rectory at 773-278-4808 You can visit our website at www.staloysiusparish.org/youthgroup.htm Add us as a friend on our group page at www.facebook.com/staloysiusparish Q: What are Youth Group Socials? A: Youth Group socials are when the youth of the parish/community come together to socialize and share their faith. Our socials consist of reflection, games, and great food! Our reflections change with the times and can range from church readings, to social justice issues, to current affairs. The rest of the time is spent getting to know each other and having fun. We have a ping pong and foosball table, board games, and a Nintendo Wii. Q: What is a Youth Mass? A: A Youth Mass is essentially a regular Sunday Mass. The only difference is that every ministry is handled by the youth. Q: What is the All Night Ski Trip? A: This is a two day event that begins on Friday evening and ends Saturday afternoon. Not all the details have been released just yet. So far, it will require a small fee that will cover you transportation, ski lessons, and ski/snowboard rental. There is also a cafeteria and a DJ present for the entire stay. Q: What is the AIDS Orphans fundraiser? A: This is a fundraiser used to support the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic high school. It has served HIV/AIDS affected young people in the Kibera slums in Nairobi, Kenya. In order to be admitted to the school, students must have lost one or both of their parents to HIV/AIDS and their surviving parents must also be afflicted with the disease. Every year we try to raise money to support their efforts of helping those young people who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Q: What is Vincentian Service Day? A: In correlation with DePaul University, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, and the 1st Ward Aldermanic office we all come together to clean up our community in order to provide a greener future. SVDP members, the Youth Group, parishioners, and DePaul students all work together to make this a reality. Q: What is Scripture by the Lake? A: This is a day of reflection by the beach. We reflect on a Biblical figure and readings to start off the day. The remainder of the day is spent swimming, playing volleyball, etc. We also BBQ. Q: Are these the only events that the group performs? A: No, every year some events may stay and other may change. Some events not listed here, but that are expected to be on next year’s calendar are the: Six Flags Trip, volleyball practices, & car wash. Q: How can I help? A: We are always looking for more volunteers. If you would like to assist in the future direction of the Youth Group, ask about our peer ministry program.
