Rules and Regulations
BAPTISM CERTIFICATE:
This document is
essential in order to receive any other sacrament in the Church. It must
be brought in at the time of registration so that we can have a copy in
our files. If your child is not baptized, please let us know in order to
prepare him/her for baptism. A child’s birth certificate is required to
register for baptismal classes.
CCD CLASSES:
Classes are held
every Saturday from 11AM - 1PM, unless otherwise stated on the
calendar. Classes for the first and second year of Confirmation are
held on Wednesdays from 6 PM - 7:30 PM.
All CCD classes are held at St. Aloysius Parish (2300 W. LeMoyne).

TIME:
Classes
begin promptly at 11AM and end at 1PM on Saturdays. PreConfirmation and Confirmation classes start at 6 PM and end at 7:30 PM on Wednesdays.
We ask that you drop off your children 10 minutes before the
scheduled time, and pick them up on time. In case of an emergency when
dropping them off, or picking them up, please call the office to let us
know that you are running late.
EMERGENCIES:
In case of severe
weather conditions during the wintertime, classes will be canceled. If
you are unsure of whether or not to send your child to class, please
contact the Office at
773-486-4495
after 8:30AM. A
message will be recorded to let you know when classes are canceled. You
may also check our
facebook
page at
www.facebook.com/staloysiusparish.
CLASS ATTENDANCE:
You must call the
Office (773-486-4495 or 773-278-4808), if your child will be unable to
attend class. A valid reason is required to miss a class.
Your child will not be allowed to receive a sacrament, and will be taken
out of the program if he/she has more than 3 unexcused absences or 5
excused absences.
You must bring a doctor’s letter, if your child’s absence has to do with
health problems.
BEHAVIOR:
Children are expected to treat teachers and classmates with respect. If
a student is misbehaving in class, he/she will be removed from the
class, and his/her parents will be called to pick up the student. If
your child is taking a behavioral medication, please let the Director
know.
Teachers are not to administer discipline nor medication.
Parents must attend 3 required faith formation classes.
Please, see the
Calendar for more information. Also, for your convenience, classes will
be offered twice. If you cannot attend a required meeting or class,
please call the Director’s office for arrangements. If a class is missed
that absence will accumulate in your child’s attendance record, and the
celebration of your child’s sacrament will be postponed until all
requirements are fulfilled by the child and his/her parents.
SUNDAY MASS:
All Catholics have
an obligation to attend Mass every Sunday. When a child is attending CCD
classes, he/she needs to understand how important Sunday Mass is.
Therefore, your children are required to attend Mass every Sunday. We
believe it is the responsibility of the parents to ensure that their
children attend Mass regularly.
HOMEWORK:
Homework assignments are mandatory in order to fulfill the CCD
requirements.
If your children do
not do their homework, they will have to repeat the year. Remember,
Catechesis is not only for your children. Your involvement in their
formation will not only benefit your child, but it will also enrich your
own spiritual life. Please, get involved by making sure they do their
homework, and bring it to class every Saturday.
DRESS CODE:
Parents, keep in mind that your children will be in a church
environment. Please, encourage them to dress accordingly. In winter
months, students will be reminded to take off their coats during class.
It is strictly mandatory to wear appropriate and more formal attire
during special ceremonies like First Confession, First Communion and
Confirmation.
LITURGIES:
Throughout the year, children will participate in various Liturgies:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Three Kings, End-of-Year Mass, etc. We welcome
parents, and strongly encourage them to actively participate with their
children. Notices will be sent with children, or mailed prior to the
celebrations. Information can also be found on the CCD Calendar, or in
the Parish’s bulletin.
“CHILD LURES” & “VIRTUS” TRAINING PROGRAMS:
The Archdioceses
mandates that every child is taught to recognize the signs of a
potential predator or child abuser. The “Child Lures” Program is used by
the Archdiocese and the Chicago Public Schools as a way of teaching
children how to avoid potentially dangerous situations. All of our
Catechists and Volunteers are required to attend the “Virtus” Training
Program in order to recognize the signs of potential child abuse. We
also do a criminal background check on them to make sure they do not
pose a danger to your children. |
