Confirmation
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONFIRMATION:
(Preparation
for Confirmation is a two-year program).
· Pre-Confirmation:
Students
in 7th
thru 10th
grades can start their first year of Confirmation. Classes are on
Wednesdays from
6PM - 7:30PM at St. Aloysius Parish.
(Students will be required to attend some parish activities for
community service. A notice will be sent home with the date, time and
place).
· Confirmation:
Students
must be at least in 8th
grade and have completed the
first year (Pre-Confirmation) of the two-year
Confirmation program to be registered in this class. Classes are
Wednesdays from 6 PM - 7:30 PM at St. Aloysius Parish. Students must
look for a Sponsor and turn in his/her name as soon as possible.
All Confirmation students are required to:
· Turn
in homework.
· Attend
Mass regularly.
· Choose
a Confirmation Name
(Name of a saint whom they want to use as a model for their lives).
· Complete
20 hours of community service. These hours can be completed by helping
or attending any of the various parish activities like attending the
Youth Group’s Activities, helping at the food pantry, helping on
Saturdays with CCD classes, etc.
(Students can also use 10 hours of service from another site).
· Pass
2 written tests given to them in class.
· Pass
an oral exam, administered by the pastor, to the students and Sponsors.
(Sponsors will have to call the rectory during April to make an
appointment for the interview).
· Attend
a Confirmation Retreat.
· Write
a letter to the bishop stating their reasons to receive Confirmation.
IMPORTANT:
Receiving the sacrament of Confirmation is mandatory before a person can
celebrate the “Quince Años” or be married in the Catholic Church.
REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SPONSOR FOR CONFIRMATION:
+We
recommend a very active role of the sponsor and parents during the
process of preparation for Confirmation. Please, do not miss any of the
required activities and meetings.
+One Sponsor is
required to accompany the candidate. The Sponsor must be at least 16
years old, a
practicing catholic,
and have already received the sacraments of Baptism, Confession,
Communion and Confirmation. Sponsors must also be willing to make a
difference in the candidate’s personal and spiritual life.
+Sponsors
are required to do at least 2 community hours and attend one meeting.
+Call the
rectory during the month of March to set an appointment for the
interview with Father Nick. |
