Social Service | Youth| Community| Living Greener | Faith

˙ Social Service Programs

˙ Food Pantry

  • We serve more than 500 families per month

  • Our food pantry has been in existence since 1983

  • Pantry services are open to anyone in need  and the need is determined by standard federal income tables without Prejudice to anyone

  • Funded by churches and individuals, not by the government, using a wide net of supporters

    • St. Aloysius Parish and our sharing parishes

    • Non-Catholic churches from the local area

    • Hispanic Lawyers Association

    • Individual contributors who give monthly support

  • Additional funding through the Chicago Hunger Walk

  • Christmas and Easter programs include special food baskets and gifts for children

  • Food is brought to those who are homebound

˙ Ozanam Thrift Store

  • Thrift store run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides low cost clothing and household items to needy families

  • Profits generated by the store are poured back into the community through direct help of needy families to pay bills or cover a family crisis

˙ Kenya School Mission

  • We support St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School in Nairobi which cares for orphans from the AIDS epidemic

˙ Nsukka School Mission

˙ Youth Programs

˙ Youth Group (ages 12-18)

 

  • Friday night socials provide opportunities for young people 12-18 to hang out and have organized fun in a safe, nurturing environment

  • Youth activities include significant learning opportunities about the environment, refugee camps and the effects of war, awareness of social problems both here and abroad and developing leadership skills

  • The group sponsors outings to places such as Great America, skiing and retreats

˙ Young Adults

 

  • Planned formation of basketball and indoor soccer clubs to provide opportunities for busy young adults and professionals to participate in athletic events close to their home

  • Special educational and social programs will be available for women, couples and young parents as space becomes available

  • St. Aloysius has been a host site for a number of 12 step programs

˙ Community Meetings

 

  • Open commitment to make facilities available for general meetings sponsored by the city or alderman without charge, as always

˙ Day Care Program

 

˙ Hall for families, clubs, parties

 

  • Renting the hall space for private parties or non-partisan club meetings will be possible

˙ Living Greener

  • Building will have as “green” a footprint as possible

  • Carbon offsets, such as trees and rain water collection will be incorporated into the construction process

˙ Faith Programs

  • Religious education programs for our children

  • Spiritual renewal and studies for Catholics and others interested in spirituality

  • Peace Garden for reflection and promoting global harmony
